Learner Web Regional Profile

Literacyworks LINCS

The design of the Learner Web is helpful, its step-by-step format, and being able to embed video clips in the work space [online portfolio] or modify windows using html. It has the flexibility to allow us to modify the content for what we need. We also chose the Learner Web because it is part of the national adult education learning community, and because the cost is affordable. The Technical support from PSU has been great.

Literacyworks

Literacyworks is part of the U.S. Department of Education-funded Literacy Information And Communications Skills (LINCS) program. It serves 16 states in Region 3 (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming ) Eventually it will provide professional development services using the Learner Web to all LINCS regions in the U.S. Its Executive Director is Paul Heavenridge

In the Literacyworks LINCS region, for the present at least, the Learner Web is being used only for professional development. The region started with the four components of reading, a face-to-face professional development workshop, now adapted to the Learner Web. As of late 2010, the region offered pilot programs where teachers were using professional development Learning Plans. The region has plans to align with continuing education (CE) in the state for CE credits. The following Learning Plans have been developed: Research-based Health Literacy Materials and Instruction Guide; Beginning ABE and ESL levels; Beginning and Intermediate ABE/ESL. Learning Plans being developed include Teaching Reading Fluency, Health Literacy: Beginning ABE and ESL levels and others. The region will offer fully developed Learning Plans to LINCS participants in September, 2011.
